Overview of Apple Apple, a company best known for producing and selling a variety of consumer electronics, is one of the top companies in the United States and in the world. The company is famous (and infamous in some minds and arenas) for the multitude of business and personal electronic devices they produce and sale each year. The list of products they produce ranges from desktops , laptop s , software, and cell phones ( iPhones ). Many would argue their products sell themselves, but Apple has a master marketing plan and follow-through that helps it to maintain its high level of sales. Because of that, Apple is the ninth-largest company in the world based solely on revenue. In April of 1976 Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne founded Apple (originally called Apple Computer Company). The first product the company produced was the Apple I, which went on sale in July 1976. A year later in January 1977, Apple was incorporated and began and began a rapid and record- breaking. It would later release the iPod and in troduce the iTunes Store and quickly bec o me the leader in online music services. Because of the popularity of the iPod, iTunes, the early Mac book, and the iPhone , Apple grew even more and became the leader in consumer electronics it is today. Apple 's headquarters are currently located in Cupertino, California in what most know as Silicon Valley . Apple ' s focus is to sell electronics to the public, specifically cell phones, computers, laptops, music, and music players. Apple prides itself on innovation and on de sign. Most of Apple's products are popular because of the unique design. When consumers are asked why they purchase an Apple product , the popular answer is because of the unique design and functionality of the product . The popularity and success of Apple attracts highl y qualified and creative job ap plicants. Since Apple' s focus is on selling a product, one of the most important jobs with Apple is that of a sales manager. A s ales manager's general job is to devise a plan to make selling the product as efficient as possible. The sales manager position is not necessarily the most important position in Apple, but with passionate and highly skilled sales managers , Apple knows it will continue to thrive . Job Analysis First, I looked up the details of a sales manager on the O-Net website. I wrote down the tasks , knowledge, skills, and abilities listed for the job. I then evaluated the lists of the different attributes I had copied down to make sure the website did not have any repetitive bullet points. After I evaluated the lists, I decided to make the job I was tasked with researching more specific for the paper, so I then looked up a sales manager on Apple ' s website . I c ompared the tasks, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the sales manager job description on Apple ' s website to the information I had written down from the O-Net website. After I compared the lists, I began to think about the selection process for this highly competitive position . I based the selection process on Apple's selection process, but I also changed the process up slightly to meet my personal job analysis. Overview of Sales Manager A s ales manager is a part of the sales team with a very unique set of skills and tasks associated with his or her employment success . Each task is just as important as the next task. Sale managers are responsibl e for staffing the sales team, and t he manager must be a great leader and have a great eye for talent t hat can help him or her achieve sales goals . Obviously since the manager chooses whom he or she feels is qualified to be on the sales team, the manager is the boss of the sales team. The sales manager sets the goals and territory quotas by analyzing specific data associated with each sales region. Sales managers for Apple work with the members of the sales teams to plan and coordinate the distribution of
